Description

Who has the best barbecue: Austin or Houston?

Find out this December at the HOU-ATX BBQ Throwdown!

The Houston Barbecue Festival and Saint Arnold Brewing Company announce the inaugural HOU-ATX BBQ Throwdown! featuring top barbecue restaurants from Houston and Austin competing to determine who reigns supreme when it comes to Texas barbecue.

Ticket holders will sample each of the barbecue competition entries as well as enjoy great Saint Arnold beer.

Participating Austin-area barbecue joints include (subject to change): Brotherton’s Black Iron Barbecue, Hays Co. Bar-B-Que, LeRoy and Lewis Barbecue, Micklethwait Craft Meats, and Valentina’s Tex Mex BBQ. This will be the first time these Austin restaurants have served in Houston.

Houston barbecue joints that qualified by being top finishers in the 3rd annual Houston BBQ Throwdown on September 24th include (subject to change): Beaver’s (Judge's co-winner from 2017), The Brisket House, El Burro & the Bull (Judge's co-winner from 2017), Gatlin’s BBQ, Harlem Road Texas BBQ, Killen’s BBQ (Judge’s winner from 2016), My Yard Reaction BBQ, The Pit Room, and Tin Roof BBQ.

Texas is a state of rivalries, and no rivalry creates more passionate debate than which city has the best barbecue: Houston or Austin.

Each individual participant will present their vision of the perfect Texas barbecue dish. This will be a creative dish that pushes the boundaries of the traditional Texas Trinity of brisket, pork ribs, and sausage. The primary criteria will be that the dish has a smoked element to it, with other criteria such as flavor and texture equally weighed.

A blind judging process featuring barbecue experts from around Texas will pick a single winner from the entries. There will also be a “People’s Choice” award in which guests can vote for their favorite dish.

The barbecue judging panel will include pitmaster Will Buckman of CorkScrew BBQ, Houston Chronicle restaurant critic Alison Cook, barbecue photographer Robert J. Lerma, pitmaster Wayne Mueller of Louie Mueller Barbecue, and Texas Monthly magazine food editor Patricia Sharpe.

**A very limited number of guest tickets will be sold.** $80 general admission includes Saint Arnold beer and samples of each barbecue joint’s competition dish. $130 VIP tickets also include access to the private Saint Arnold Investor’s Pub for viewing of the judge’s panel.

**To ensure the best possible experience for all guests, only a limited number of tickets will be made available for sale. Tickets sold out well in advance of last year's event - we encourage you to purchase tickets as soon as possible to ensure availability.**

**All tickets sold in advance online. No ticket sales at the door.**
